Big Ben in Kolkata -the City of Joy

The tower occupies about 1,000 square feet and the main concern is traffic congestion.

The Big Ben, the 150-year-old clock tower at a stone’s throw from the British Parliament, is a unique structure. To build a similar structure anywhere on earth, let alone in one of the most congested cities, Kolkata, is a difficult proposition. But that is exactly what a municipality on the north-eastern fringe of the city has done. The South Dum Dum Municipality has raised a Big Ben on the road to the Kolkata airport.

The project was initiated a year ago at a cost of about 1.5 crore. Sujit Bose, Trinamool Congress MLA and Deputy Chairman of the municipality, is the man behind Kolkata’s “Big Ben”..
